Novosibirsk --1995
  1. The Project name: Euromath Network and Services for the New Independent States (Siberia and the Far Eastern region).

  2. The Object of investigations: creation of information systems, organization and support of network access for mathematical organizations of the NIS.

  3. Geographical scale: Siberia and the Far East.

  4. The Project duration: 1995-1997

  5. Substantiation of the Project:

    The purposes of the EmNet project are to provide a team-work and open exchange of ideas between the mathematicians by means of computer engineering and network technologies. EmNet/NIS (EmNet/NIS: Euromath Network and Services for the New Independent States.) is a part of EmNet and is to help in solution of information and communication problems, occurring to the mathematicians from the mathematical organizations of Siberia and the Far East. By no means is the Project intended directly for the mathematical investigations. The Project is open for entrance to noncommercial organizations, i.e. research institutes and universities.

  6. The purposes and the ways to achieve them:

  7. The Project directors:

    The Project Director : Professor Flemming Topsoe - EmNet/NIS Coordinator, EuroMath Center, Institute of Mathematics of Copenhagen.

    The Project Coordinator for Siberia and the Far East: Academician Yu.I. Shokin, Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

    The Project Technical Coordinator for Siberia and the Far East : Doctor of Physics and Mathematics Professor A.M. Fedotov, Institute of Computational Technologies SB RAS.

  8. Organizations-contractors:

    1.1. University of Copenhagen, Euromath Center, Institute of Mathematics;

    5.1. Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, namely:

    5.2. Krasnoyarsk State University;

    5.3. Novosibirsk State University,( Research Institute of Mathematical-Information Foundations of Learning);

    5.4. State Siberian National Academy of Telecommunications and Computer Science (SibNATCS) of Novosibirsk;

    5.5. Tomsk Division of the Institute for Structural Macrokinetics RAS;

    5.6. Chita Institute of Mineral Resources SB RAS;

    5.7. State University of the Far East (Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science);

    5.8. Computing Center of the Far Eastern Branch of the RAS (Khabarovsk);

  9. Expected results:
    1. The information servers (WWW, FTP &E-mail access) will be created on the base of the ICT SB RAS containing the following information systems:
      • contents of mathematical journals - (SB RAS, Russian and foreign journals) (WWW, FTP and E-mail access);

      • notice board (conferences, seminars and other events) (WWW, FTP and E-mail access);

      • "teleconference" of Siberian and Far Eastern mathematicians - SM-Net (mathematical digest, electronic communications, publications etc.) (WWW, FTP and E-mail access);

      • brief passports of the institutes of mathematical profile with references to the electronic addresses of the institutes (WWW and FTP access);

      • the directory of Siberian and Far Eastern mathematicians (EMIR system) with references to the electronic addresses of the mathematicians (WWW and FTP access);

      • the full text database of mathematicians' works (FTP and E-mail access);
      • the electronic versions of the "Siberian Mathematical Journal" and the journal "Computational Technologies" (FTP and E-mail access) and other.

    2. On the basis of the ICT SB RAS a file server (FTP and E-mail access) containing licensed software obtained through the Project and from other sources will be created.

    3. A library database will be created on the annotations of publications (NPSTL SB RAS and IIS SB RAS) (WWW, FTP and E-mail access).

    4. TeX-mirror (FTP and E-mail access) containing CTAN (Comprehensive TeX Archive Network) archive of editor system TeX for author's and publisher's preparation (formats LaTeX, AmSTeX, AmS-LaTeX and Plain ) of mathematical texts in English and in Russian in MS-DOS, OS/2 and UNIX environments (ICT SB RAS, IM SB RAS, KSU) will be created.

    5. Training-consulting centers on telecommunication software and TeX-service (ICT SB RAS, SibNATCS, KSU FESU) will be created.

  10. Financing for 1995-1996:

    - 28 000 ECU from INT AS--IA03 (INTAS: International Association for the Promotion of Cooperation with Scientists from the Independent States of the former Soviet Union.) for Siberia and the Far Eastern region.

    - Organizations' own funds.
