| The Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Science was
founded in 1958. It came from a laboratory for new methods of acceleration headed by
G.I. Budker at the Institute of Atomic Energy at that time under I.V. Kurchatov.
Academician G.I. Budker was the founder and first Director of the Institute. From his death in
1977 to the present time, the Institutes Director has been Academician
