The main activities:
- determining of fire danger season in the forests;
- predicting of fire risk probability;
- discovery of smudges of large and middle fires;
- monitoring of ice in the rivers;
- discovery of ice-blockings;
- monitoring of snow cover edge, determining of the snow-covered area of the river and water-reservoir basins;
- restoring of atmospheric state parameters at different height;
- mapping of the total ozone in the atmosphere;
- control of forest damage by large industrial complexes and by natural pests (Siberian moth)
- mapping of vegetational index (NDVI)
Station characteristics:
The station is produced by Quorum Communications Company, the USA. It was installed in Krasnoyarsk in 1994. It is intended for receiving and processing of signals from NOAA satellites. Station complex is additionally equipped with IVAS system to process and analyse digital images. Its software allows to process data of the scanning AVHRR radiometer and of the TOVS complex for vertical sounding of the atmosphere.
NOAA satellites:
Period of circulation is 102 min.
Board equipment:
AVHRR radiometer with 5 spectral channels (1.0.58-0.68 mkm, 0.725-1.10 mkm, 3.55-3.93 mkm, 10.3-11.3 mkm, 11.5-12.5 mkm).
Resolution on the site in the sub-satellite point is 1,1km. For one satellite circulation the area of the whole Siberia is seen - from the border with Mongolia to Taymir peninsula and from the Urals to Zabaikalie.
TOVS complex for vertical sounding of the atmosphere.
Scientific institutions dealing with boreal forest study, problems of forest fire monitoring, problems of ecology, meteorological problems and analysis of atmosphere state.
Station functionates fully. There is data archives for 3 years of the station work. Communication: there is communication with Internet.

Densitometric laboratory DENDRO-2003 (Institute of Forest SB RAS, laboratory of dendrochronology) was designed to obtain density profile of tree rings. The laboratory can be used in dendrochronology, dendroclimatology, wood quality researches and so on. Some of the Forest Institutes and Universities in the world have about the same laboratory and it means that data obtained on the DENDRO-2003 in Krasnoyarsk are comparable to the data from other laboratories.
