	SCIENTIFIC EVENTS OF THE NSC IN JUNE
	NOT A SPECIFIC POINT At the Irkutsk Scientific Center the meeting of the State Duma Deputies academician Sergey Kolesnikov, Yuri Ten and Sergey Levchenko with the scientists has been held. In the enlarged session of the Presidium of the IrSC the Chairman of the SB RAS academician Nikolai Dobretsov, the Chairman of the Rectors of the Irkutsk Region academician Michail Vinokurov and the heads of higher education institutions have taken part.
	"ECO" IS 30 30 years ago the first issue of the "ECO" journal (full journal title being " Economics and Organization of Industrial Production ") founded by the Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences have been published. A.Aganbegian has become the creator and the first General Editor of the journal. At that time such economic journals there were no more than a dozen, and the "ECO" that had become a bridge between science and practice had found the reader at once.
	*On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of M.A.Lavrentiev*
	ON THE KARA SEA ICE The Institute of Hydrodynamics of he Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences has not been constructed yet. Our laboratories huddled in temporary apartments near the Zyrianka brook. However, at that time we were glad even because of these rooms and conducted there the scientific activities according to our possibilities. In particular, under the leadership of academician Michail Alekseevich Lavrentiev our scientific youth studied an expediency of the blasting charge use for an ice splitting. It was important to establish a one- to-one correspondence between the blasting charge value and the ice thickness and to determine what the charges are necessary in order to make the given-sized opening cuts through ice.

	THE MUSEUM OF THE SB RAS, 2000... Having no pretensions of a role of a critic, I`ve got into a position of a person who coincidentally attempted to delve into the present day of the Museum of the SB RAS and who is obliged to utter an opinion that is not the most competent one about future development of the Museum.
	ALL THIS IS OUR HISTORY The time passes, the people leave, and their deeds are mastered by new generations, which sometimes never thought that here, at the most beautiful place of the Krasnoyarsk suburb only 30-35 years ago gophers whistled, oats eared and the Yenisey winds blew. And the new generations of the modern young people who masterly drum on the computers and infinitely exchange new intricate concepts and terms ought to remember those who paved the way for them, created the base of knowledge, facilities and resources.

	"ISLANDS OF SAVAGE PEOPLE", SIBERIA... AND THE EDEN Textual critic notes and imaginations: reading Old Russian manuscripts.
	ORIGINS OF SLAVONIC PILOLOGY AND PHILOSOPHY May 24 is the Day of Slavonic Literature and Culture. Recalling Cyril and Methodius this day, the Prime Teachers of the Slavs, every year we fasten again our grateful eyes on the origins of the richest cultural and historical heritage of the Slavonic peoples, which one is inseparable both from the elightener activity of the scholar Soluna brothers, and from the present science and culture of the Slavs.

	AN EXHIBITION IS OPEN May 19, 2000 at the Division of the SPSTL of the SB RAS in the Novosibirsk Academgorodok, the exhibition "Migration of the population during the post- Soviet period" has been opened.
	REFLECTIONS ABOUT VIRTUAL LIFE OF LIBRARIES Despite of hardship of the reforms, the number of readers in the libraries has not decreased. The basic property of Russia most likely consists in this irrepressible thirst for knowledge rather than the fact that "we are the most reading people in the world". Whatever happens in our country: the forces of Nature are roaring, the ruble is dropping or the ratings decrease, but the prestige of knowledge remains everlasting and blameless.
	*May 28 is the Day of Chemist*
	20th CENTURY BY CHEMIST`S SIGHT Academician V.N.Parmon, the Chairman of the Joint Scientific Council on Chemical Sciences of the SB RAS.
	NAMED AFTER ACADEMICIAN FAVORSKY According to the resolution of the Presidium of the RAS, the Irkutsk Institute of Chemistry of the SB RAS is named after Academician A.E.Favorsky. It has been made with a view to perpetuate the memory of the outstanding organic chemist, academician Aleksey Evgrafovich Favorsky, whose scientific researches in the field of acetylene and its derivatives have been continued and developed in the Irkutsk Institute of Chemistry.
	UNIVERSAL OXIDE SYSTEMS The main problems facing the group headed by Doctor Sc. (Chemistry) Yu.Yuhin of the Institute of Solid State Chemistry and Mechanochemistry are studies of physical and chemical properties of various oxide materials as well as an obtaining of the compounds on the base of bismuth. These have gained widespread acceptance in production of ferroelectric, scintillation, acusto-optical and superconductive materials as well as of optical glasses, catalysts and pharmaceutical preparations. We have a talk about the field of chemists with the head of the group.
	INTEGRATION IS THE MOST INTERESTING FORM OF CO-OPERATION An interview to Doctor Sc. (Engineering), Director of the Institute of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of the Krasnoyarsk Scientific Center of the SB RAS Gennady Pashkov.
	HE WAS A PERMANENT LEADER May 22, 2000 at The G.K.Boreskov Institute of Catalysis of the SB RAS, the seminar "Regularities in Deep Oxidation of Substances on Solid Catalysts" dedicated to the memory of Professor V.Popovsky will be held. The day before he would be 70.
	PEOPLE AS THE ELEMENTS, OR "LIFE AND CHEMISTRY"

	LOOKING FORWARD FURTER COOPERATION The fifth year in a row, the Russian-Mongolian-American expedition headed by academician A.Derevianko of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of the SB RAS leaves for Mongolia; the chief of the group is Doctor Sc. (History) V.Petrin. The research work in this region was started as early as in the sixtieths, however such a stuff of scientists leaves for Mongolia only since 1995.
	UNEXPECTED KIMBERLITES IN THE SNAP LAKE REGION Last time, when a conversation turns to the present state of the art of science, chilling definitions are mostly used: disorder, decay, and crisis.... So much the diverse polarity news seems to be the more significant and encouraging. Those are evidence of the fact that even in the present severe circumstances, the science plunged into the Russian reform abyss, lives and produces such splendid results, which are considered as the outstanding ones even the much more successful states.
	HOLIDAY WITH GRIZZLED TEMPLES May 6, at the Presidium of the Yakutsk Scientific Center, the meeting with the war veterans has warmly and cordially passed. The congratulations and gifts have been handed them. The veterans have shared their reminiscences with the meeting participants, gladdened them with amusing stories, verses, romances of their own composition as well as with wartime songs.

	THE NOVOSIBIRSK STATE UNIVERSITY AT THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP FOR PROGRAMMING The final round of the International Championship of Students for Programming has been recently held in Miami (USA).
	RUSSIAN AND AMERICAN SCHOOLCHILDREN BEING IN A JOINT TEAM April 27 (for USA) and April 28 (for Russia) at 7.30 (the Novosibirsk time) the Olympiad on Physics through Internet has taken place.
	ATTENTION: A CONTEST The Discussion Club of the Novosibirsk State University, jointly with the "AVES" Ecology Club of the Novosibirsk State Pedagogical (Teacher’s Training) University and the Public Institute "Scientists of Siberia for the Global Responsibility", announces an open contest for participation in the 2nd Summer Seminar "Ecological Problems and Sustainable Development" for senior pupils of Novosibirsk and of the Novosibirsk Region.
	RELIABLE "PERPETUUM MOBILE" Let`s recollect that May 19 is the Birthday of the Pioneer organization. Such organization does not already exist for a long time, but there is something, that unites the children of pioneer age. As for us, it is a newspaper "Perpetuum Mobile" published at the Novosibirsk Academgorodok. Editorial stuff of the newspaper includes three adult persons, 15 permanent young reporters and an innumerable quantity of supernumerary young correspondents.
