	ENERGETIC SECURITY OF RUSSIA 70^th session of the National scientific Seminar "Methodical Problems of the Investigation of Reliability of Large Systems of Energetics" was held in Syktyvkar (Komi Republic). The seminar had been organised in 1973 by Academician Yuri N.Rudenko who headed it until his death in 1994.
	NATURAL GAS AS A BASIS FOR CO-OPERATION On July 25 to 27 the 5th International Conference "Gas Pipelines of North East Asia: an International Co-operation" was held in Yakutsk.
	A HELPING HAND, OR INTAS CARES FOR US A scientific session of INTAS was held in the course of the conference "Physical Methods for Investigation of Catalytic Processes on Molecular Level". A representative of INTAS Secretariat Mr. Ingmar Schmidt took part in the session.
	WHAT IS BSFP? The abbreviation BSFP still sounds oddly. Nevertheless, there is a hope that the situation will change, because more and more participants take part in the Baikal youth scientific school on fundamental Physics. On September 13 to 19, the second school will be held in Irkutsk.
	ECONOMISTS ADDRESSING THEMSELVES TO THE PROBLEM OF THE BAIKAL CELLULOSE AND PAPER FACTORY The current stage of searching the solution of the painful problem assembled together leading scientists and administrative officers of the Irkutsk Region and the town of Baikalsk at the Presidium of the Irkutsk Scientific Centre.
	WANTED The Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry calls for a contest for filling a vacant position.
	WHAT OUR MOODS AND STRESS REACTIONS DEPEND ON In the middle of July, an International Symposium "Genetic and Ontogenetic Psychoneuroendocrinology" took place at the Novosibirsk Academic Township. This complicated term reflects peculiarities of the new line of inquiry clarifying hormone effect on organisms.
	TECHNOLOGY KNOWS HOW Fundamental scientific studies should answer the childish question of "why?". Of no less importance is another question, that one more characteristic of youth, "how?". The latter question is to be answered by a science named "technology". The division of technology of catalytic processes of the Institute of Catalysis of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences also takes part in solving problems of that ilk.
	A NUMBER OF REGULARITIES EMERGED A Project by Junior Scientists: "Human antibodies-nucleases in normal state and under autoimmune pathologies".
	AN AGREEMENT SIGNED The first foreign higher school to make contact with the Tomsk Polytechnic University was the Jiling University. It is situated in the city of Changchun, a centre of Chinese automotive industry.
	A TREATY WITH THE TURKISH EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION On July 11, 1999, a treaty between the Tomsk State University and UFUK, a Turkish educational foundation, was signed. The treaty establishes principles of co-operation in the field of mutual training of specialists.
	ENERGETICS: A LOOK INTO 21ST CENTURY Specialists in the field of energetics are many, but those who can systematise and generalise knowledge, integrate it and distinguish main trends are few. Prof. L. S. Belyayev is a leading figure in the world advancement of system theory. He is being invited to take part in international programmes. For two years, he worked with the International Institute of Applied System Analysis, Vienna. It is in great part thanks to his activity that programmes of global energetics of 21st century are being carried out at the Institute. One of the first TACIS projects was also performed with his participation.
	OIL AND GAS FROM EAST SIBERIA
	USING ALL THE POTENTIALS The Central Scientific Library of the Krasnoyarsk Scientific Centre of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences exists for some 20 years. During last years it is engaged in building-up a distributed library system. The work is performed in co-operation with the Institute of Computational Modelling.
	"WE DIDN`T LEARN NEITHER HEGELS NOR GOGOLS" Academician Vladimir Ye. Nakoryakov reveals his surprising reaction to the decision of the Higher Attestation Commission (VAK) to abandon philosophy examination as a part of the "candidate minimum". "As a matter of fact, philosophy is being tossed off science", writes he.
