	THE SB RAS SCIENTIFIC EVENTS IN JUNE
	*May 27 is the Day of Chemist*
	THE INSTITUTE REALIZING SOCIAL ORDER Twenty years ago, when the Institute of Chemistry and Chemical Technology of the SB RAS was organized in Krasnoyarsk, the problem of creation of scientific foundations for processing of various natural raw materials, including vegetative biomass has become a large-scale separate scientific field. For past years this problem was realized in creation of specific technologies for industry.
	KNOW OUR LOT! The analysts of the Institute of Geochemistry of the SB RAS work on a level with the highest world standards.
	HAPPINESS WAS SO POSSIBLE... Expectancies of researchers were connected with nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectrometer АС-200Р of Bruker Company, which has appeared at the Omsk Branch of the Institute of Catalysis in 1989. Having at their disposal a method that remains one of the most informative for structural analytical chemistry in this century too, they expected to devote themselves closely to the problems of catalysis at molecular level.
	THE WEALTH OF "TERPENERS" WILL INCREASE IN ETHEREAL OILS! The Laboratory of Terpenic Compounds of the N.N.Vorozhtsov Novosibirsk Institute of Organic Chemistry of the SB RAS headed by Doctor Sc. (Chemistry) Aleksei Tkachev, has a broad spectrum of scientific interests: investigation of natural substances such as terpenoids, chemical communication of ticks. Study of ethereal oils of plants of Siberia and Altai is rather new research field.
	ECOLOGICAL AND BIOGEOCHEMICAL RESEARCHES IN WESTERN SIBERIA Rocks - soil - water - plant - animals - human beings: all these are the links of biogeochemical chain of migration of chemical elements in biosphere that joins the empires of living and lifeless nature into the whole.
	PHOTO-REPORT FROM THE OMSK BRANCH OF THE INSTITUTE OF CATALYSIS The Omsk Branch of the G.K Boreskov Institute of Catalysis of the SB RAS exists more than 20 years. Catalytic transformations of hydrocarbons, catalysts and catalytic processes for oil processing and petrochemistry, catalysts for industrial ecology, new carbon-based materials and wares are the main scientific lines of the Institute. Today we present this chemical institution in faces captured by our press photographer V.Novikov who has visited Omsk.
	POINT HIT The Laboratory of Dispersed Systems of the Institute of Chemical Kinetics and Combustion of the SB RAS is multiple-discipline collective. The seventeen researchers of the Laboratory are biologists, chemists, mechanicians, physicists, mathematicians. The problems decided by the scientists are also manifold.
	RATING: IT`S NOT SIMPLE, BUT VERY SIMPLE The reason of emerging of these notes is a wish for sharing the thoughts on the features of rating system accepted by the chemists, as well as answering frequently asked questions. Those are the questions asked both by the employees of chemical institutes who in the performance of their duty are solicitous about rating results and colleagues of another specialties who say that "the chemists count all things using a computer".
	THERE WILL BE MENDELEEVS IN SIBERIA From April 24 to April 25 the regularly scheduled annual competition of the projects of the institute young scientists that became traditional has been held at the A.E.Favorski Irkutsk Institute of Chemistry of the SB RAS. The members of the commission of experts and independent observers marked that scientific level of the competitors and their projects is increased from year to year. Competition is a good school for young scientists.
	CHEMISTRY OF THE 21ST CENTURY The 2nd Regional Student`s Scientific and Practical Conference "Chemistry and Chemical Engineering in 21th Century" has been held at the Tomsk Polytechnic University.
	GLORY OF CARBON Victor Shopin, scientist of Omsk, Candidate Sc.(Engineering), heads one of the laboratories of the Technological Design Institute of Industrial Carbon of the SB RAS. He is an author of many scientific works and inventions. Victor Michailovich is diversely gifted person, and poetry is one of his passions. We offer our reader a wreath of sonnets "Glory of carbon", an unexpected account of professional problems.
	STAGES OF MANIFOLD ACTIVITY Scientific activity of Academician V.A.Koptiug (1931-1997) was rather manifold; it included profound fundamental researches in the field of organic chemistry, works in chemical informatics and ecology. In each of these fields he has founded scientific schools evolving his basic ideas.
	"CHEMISTRY FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT": FROM 20TH TO 21ST CENTURY In 1993 V.Koptiug, opening the first issue of new international journal "Chemistry for sustainable development" founded by him, wrote: "The UNO Conference on Environment and Development held in June, 1992 in Rio de Janeiro has become a serious landmark at the path of mankind perception of the catastrophe threatening at civilization, if its development in 21st century will go by the same ways, as in this century".

	ARMED WITH MODERN TECHNOLOGIES Just five years ago, May 27, 1996 the All-Russian Day of Libraries established by the Presidential Decree according to the initiative of Russian Library Association has been celebrated in Russia for the first time. Today the main path of development of library business consists in creation of branchy information system, introduction of new information technologies and automation of main library bibliographic processes.

	INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES OF THE BEGINNING OF 21ST CENTURY There are old and peculiar mutual relations between Internet and science. Network technologies have come into the world just due to scientific organizations and research programs.
	PATHWAYS OF REFORMING OF RUSSIAN ELECTRIC POWER INDUSTRY: DIFFICULT CHOICE The energy potential of Russia was created mainly since 50ths up to the end of 80ths of the 20th century, when the development of electric power industry went at the rates leaving the remaining industry behind. While increase in the national income was about 6,2 times, increase in the electric power production was more than 10 times.
