	SCIENTIFIC EVENTS IN AUGUST
	The Second General Assembly of the Association of Academies of Sciences of Asian Countries to be held at the Novosibirsk Academgorodok
	LARGE-SCALE MEETING BEFORE SUMMER VACATIONS July 5 the regularly scheduled meeting of the SB RAS Presidium being the last before summer vacations has been held to consider a wide range of problems.
	GLOBAL INFORMATION RESOURCE IN LONG-TERM OUTLOOK These days, from July 9 to July 14, a large group of researchers have gathered from different countries to the Small Hall of the SB RAS House of Scientists in order to discuss the problems of biovariety of ecosystems of Northern Eurasia aiming at further consolidation of the efforts of world scientific community in this field.
	ALTAI IS CONCERN OF OUR PLANET In June the working meeting of the delegations of Russia, Mongolia, Kazakhstan and Germany with participation of the UNESCO representatives has been held at Bonn (Germany), focused on the creation of biosphere reservation of planetary significance at Altai. Academician N.Dobretsov and Chairman of Altai Republican Government S.Zubakin presented the Russian party.
	ABOUT THE WORK OF THE THIRD RUSSIAN BIOGEOCHEMICAL SCHOOL The 2nd issue of the Siberian Ecological Journal of 2001 has been published in an exotic size such as 16 publishing sheets. It includes 20 articles, the reports selected by editorial board of the 3rd Russian biogeochemical school, held from September 4 to September 8, 2000 in Gorno-Altaisk.

	THE A.N.KOSYGIN PRIZE IS ESTABLISHED The Presidium of the Russian Union of Commodity Producers has accepted resolution to perpetuate the memory of outstanding state figure Aleksei Nikolaevich Kosygin.

	MOBILE "ELSIB" The "ELSIB", a plant for production of high-power electrical machines, is one of the first in Novosibirsk that have started the creation of automated laser engineering complexes (ALEC) of broad destination.
	A NOVELTY: "THE SIBERIAN JOURNAL" This new informational and analytical journal has begun to be issued in Novosibirsk since May (circulation 1500 copies). Editorial board informs the readers, that the main topic of the journal will include Siberian life, the steps in realization of its development concept, experience of the Siberians` efforts joining, inter-regional interaction for creation and realization of large-scale Siberian projects and programs.
	THE SIBERIAN ECOLOGICAL JOURNAL Regularly scheduled June issue of the "Siberian Ecological Journal" has been published. It is devoted to paedohalogenetical, landscape-geochemical as well as ecological and reclamation problems.
	A WAY OUT OF DEADLOCK Doctor Sc.(Economics) V.Samaruha analyzes economical condition of our country and offers some pathways for withdrawal from this complicated situation in his book "Economy and finances of post-reform Russia".
	RUSSIA: TO BE OR NOT TO BE? The Novosibirsk State University and the Siberian University of Consumer`s Co- operative Society have published a book "Russia: policy and politicians (1985- 2000)" by V.Demidov, Professor of the NSU Russian History Faculty.
	REFLECTIONS ABOUT FATE OF RUSSIAN SCIENCE AND SOCIETY The book by P.A.Danilovtsev "There will be no collapse of science" (Yakutsk, 2001).
	CALLING CARD OF OMSK The highest building of the City, a white palace with the letters cut on its facade "The A.S.Pushkin Omsk State Regional Scientific Library" (constructed in 1995, founded April 11, 1899 by the Omsk City Duma on the occasion of the centenary of A.Pushkin) is called just a "calling card" of the city by the dwellers of Omsk, as well as by the Russian and foreign visitors of the Region.
