	NEWS
	A STUDENT TODAY IS AN ACADEMICIAN TOMORROW! September 1, the Day of Knowledge, is a holiday not only for first-formers and schoolchildren. For many graduates new period of life begins such as studentship. This day students were congratulated in many high schools of our City. For the NSU students a solemn event on this occasion was held at the House of Scientists of the SB RAS.
	SCIENTIFIC EVENTS IN SEPTEMBER
	TASKS of the ACADEMY of SCIENCES of REPUBLIC SAHA In July the General Meeting of the Academy of Sciences of Republic Saha has been held. In the report of the President, Corresponding Member of the RAS V.Filippov the analysis of all done for past five years have been presented and the tasks of the Academy of Sciences for the near future have been set. It was spoken about the ways to increase of the authority of republican science, about priority fields, about definition of strategic ways of the AS RS development.
	SILVER IDOL From the 16th to 17th centuries a story about the Gold Image, a legendary idol of Trans-Uralian peoples, has got wide popularity in West-European literature. Dozens of years were spent for its search, but the result was negative. Having lost hope to find the Gold Image, Russian travelers and researchers with greater enthusiasm have switched over searches of the Silver one. Their efforts have been crowned with certain success.
	HE REMAINED THE SIBERIAN August 20 the memorial board in honor of the outstanding scientist and remarkable person Academician Aleksandr Leonidovich Janshin has appeared on the building of the United Institute of Geology, Geophysics and Mineralogy of the SB RAS.

	AT THE ORIGINS OF ETHNOARCHEOLOGY September 14, Director of the Omsk Branch of the United Institute of History, Philology and Philosophy of the SB RAS, Head of the of Ethnography and Museology Chair of the Omsk State University, Doctor Sc. (History), Professor Nikolai Arkadievich Tomilov is 60.
	LIFE IN SPORTS In September Vladimir Mullin, old resident of the Academgorodok, veteran of the Siberian Branch of the RAS has been 60.
	TWENTY YEARS IS THE AGE OF DISCOVERIES In September the Chita Institute of Natural Resources of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences is 20. Anniversary is traditional occasion for summarizing.
	SOLVING THE PROBLEMS OF CRYOGENESIS Creating the Institute, its first Director F.Krendelev tried to lay the foundation of the academic science focused on the features of Transbaikalia. Being a geochemist, Fedor Petrovich considered the study of migration and transformation of the substances in the permafrost formations to be perspective. However it was inexpedient to duplicate investigations of geocryologists. By virtue of different reasons the radiophysical remote methods for studying permafrost formations have been chosen. So, in 1981 the Laboratory of Radiophysical Research Methods (later the Laboratory of Cryogenesis Geophysics) has been founded.
	GEOGRAPHICAL RESEARCHES In TRANSBAIKALIA The Laboratory of Economic Geography exists since 1961 at first in structure of the Transbaikalian Research Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences, then of the Institute of Geography of Siberia and Far East of the USSR AS, and since 1981 in structure of the Chita Institute of Natural Resources of the Siberian Branch of the RAS.
	SEARCHING FOR THE WAYS OF PRESERVATION OF WOOD RESOURCES In laboratory of Bioresources of the Chita Institute of Natural Resources of the SB RAS rational use and reproduction of wood resources is traditional, settled scientific field. Small group of employees, where Victor Petrovich Bobrinev is an indisputable scientific authority, works on this problem.
	SCIENTIFIC MODEL TESTING AREA OF THE CINR During organization of the Chitа Institute of Natural Resources the Transbaikalian Complex Expedition of the Limnological Institute of the SB RAS was included in its structure with permanent scientific establishment at the village Preobrazhenka in the area of Ivano-Arahleisk territorial and aqual complex. From the middle of the 60ths the complex limnologic works were priority in scientific researches of the Expedition. These works were included into the International biological program focused on realization of global studies on the biosphere productivity, the major part of which was the investigation of the laws of biological production of organic substance in continental basins.
	SYNTHESIS OF GEOGRAPHY AND GEOLOGY The Laboratory of Geoecology and Ore Genesis is the youngest in the Institute, it is created in January, 2000. The organization of laboratory is connected with natural and economic features of Transbaikalia, one of the basic and oldest mining regions of Russia. Development of ore deposits is made there more than three centuries. Wide spectrum of genetic and mineralogical types of minerals as well as landscape and climatic conditions of the territory put it into a number of unique natural testing areas for various geospheric researches.
	WATER ECOSYSTEMS AS THE OBSERVATION OBJECT The Laboratory of Water Ecosystems of the CINR is a successor of the Transbaikalian Complex Expedition of the Lymnologic Institute of the SB RAS, which in 1966 has been created in Chita for regular studies on the lakes of Transbaikalia. During organization of the CINR SB RAS the laboratory has been included into the Institute. Hydroecological researches in southeast regions were continued, and interesting results have been obtained.
	TO TREAT AT THE LEVEL OF CELL Approximately to this - to treat human body at the level of cell - the task of medicine will come to in the uncertain while perspective, but nevertheless in the not so far future.
	NUMERICAL METHODS IN SOLVING OF THE ELASTICITY AND PLASTICITY THEORY PROBLEMS In July the 17th Inter-Republican Conference on Numerical Methods in Solving of the Problems of Elasticity and Plasticity Theory has been held in Novosibirsk on the basis of the Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics of the SB RAS. Academician N.Janenko whose 80th anniversary has been marked this year, up to the end of his life was organizer and permanent head of all these Conferences (earlier they were referred to as All-Union ones). In new conditions his disciples and followers continue this line.
	FOR ATMOSPHERIC SCIENCES The summer in Irkutsk was rich in International conferences. The scientific forums have been held simultaneously at the following three Institutes: at the Institute of Solar and Terrestrial Physics, at the Institute of Dynamics of Systems and Theory of Control as well as at the Limnological Institute.
	CONFERENCE ON THE BURNING AND DETONATION PROBLEMS IN KARLSRUHE In July the 32th International Conference has been held in Karlsruhe, Germany, which is annually held by the Fraunghofer Institute of Chemical Technology (Pfintztal). The Conferences are traditionally devoted to the researches in the field of power materials application; one year the basic attention is given to the processes of their chemical transformations, another year to the processes of their synthesis and manufacture. This year the Conference subtitle was "Ignition, burning and detonation".
	MECHANOCHEMICAL TECHNOLOGIES OF THE FUTURE Dry technologies, which feature is that chemical processes in them proceed in solid phase, are fairly considered as technologies of the future. Comparing to the existing, traditional ones they frequently appear to be economically more favorable and non-polluting.
	TEA FROM CUCUMBERS, FISH FROM BOGS AND BASIC RESEARCHES The water legislation of the Russian Federation considers the bogs among the superficial waters, i.e. lakes, storage pools and ponds. As the payment for using water objects is implemented, then according to the Water Code the payment should be raised for using the bogs too...
	VACANCIES
	WINTER IN SIBERIA. HOW TO GO THROUGH? Even at the height of the summer the skilled chief thinks of the answer to the question put in the title. The market economy in Siberia aggravates this question repeatedly. People responsible for the maintenance of buildings know that the problem of energy and heat supply is one of the priority problems for Russia.

Last days of August the music, since the morning sounding near the House of Scientists, creating celebratory mood, and lorries loaded with young plants in adjoining territory uncontrollably attracted the gardeners to the traditional exhibition fair "Harvest-2001".
	DO NOT GIVE UP, GARDENERS! "It is good! Well! Goo-о-о-d!". Such a laconic note was left in the visitors` book by one of visitors of the exhibition "Harvest-2001". What could one add to such an emotional expression of feelings?
	GUARDIAN OF NATURE August, 14, 2001 Natalia Vasilievna Klimova, former Responsible Secretary of the All-Union Society of Wildlife Conservation of the Soviet District Executive Committee has died at the 96th year of her life. Shehas left an appreciable trace in preservation of natural landscape of the Academgorodok`s forest park zone of the environment at the Soviet District.
