	TWO POSITIONS What is more preferable: shock therapy or evolutionary reform of the Russian Academy of Sciences?
	PHYSICIAN, HEAL THYSELF! At the heart of so-called reform of the RAS is one fundamental error, “old” Academy of Sciences supposedly does not match the progressive reality. Therefore, there is a brain drain from Russia, and the science is weak, and the upgrading is poor, and the country's defense leaves much to be desired. And it’s entirely the fault of “Grand Dame RAS”, being not able to keep up with the rapid social progress.
	SENATOR A.K. TULOKHONOV SPOKE AGAINST THE RAS REFORM BILL On September 23, the Federation Council Committee on Science, Education, Culture and Information Policy has recommend to approve the RAS reform bill. Senator from Buryatia was the only member of the committee who did not support this recommendation.

	PARTICIPANTS OF OPENING OF THE STATION ON THE ISLAND SAMOILOVSKY HAVE ADDRESSED TO THE PRESIDENT OF RUSSIA The solemn opening and final transfer of a new research station on the island Samoilovsky to the Siberian Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences has recently taken place.
	CREATOR OF THE SCHOOL FOR SUN INVESTIGATING EXPERTS The famous Russian scientist, Corresponding Member of the RAS V.E. Stepanov was one of the originators of founding of the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics of SB RAS and its unique observatories. If alive, he would be 100 this year.
	IN LOVING MEMORY OF THE MINING SCIENTIST The opening of a memorial plaque of M.D. Novopashin has taken place in Yakutsk on September 17, in the framework of the II All-Russian scientific-practical Conference “Geomechanical and geotechnical problems of the effective exploitation of solid mineral deposits of the northern and north-eastern regions of Russia”.
	A NEW WORD - FOR SIBERIA The 11-th International Conference “Gas discharge plasmas and their applications” has been held in Tomsk from September 18 through September 20.
	NONDESTRUCTIVE METHOD FOR INVESTIGATION A Scientific Conference dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the discovery of the Raman scattering effect has been hosted by the Kirensky Institute of Physics of SB RAS from August 26 through August 29.
	HARD WORK HAS NOT BEEN STOPPED The regular meetings of coordinating councils of targeted programs “Telecommunication and multimedia resources of SB RAS” and “Information resources of SB RAS” have been held at the Institute of Computational Technologies of SB RAS on September 24. The events have been confined to the beginning of the All-Russian Conference “Industrial Information Systems”.
	PROBLEMS OF PETROLEUM GEOLOGY AND GEOPHYSICS. TRIANGLE: POWER, BUSINESS, SCIENTISTS A regular All-Russian youth scientific conference with international participation “Trofimuk readings-2013” has been held at the Trofimuk Institute of Petroleum Geology and Geophysics of SB RAS from September 8 through September 14.
	THE FIRST PLACE – FOR INVESTIGATION OF VIRUSES The VI All-Russian Congress of young biologists “Symbiosis-Russia 2013” has been held in Irkutsk in late August.
	BIOINFORMATICS: SUCCESSFUL INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION In recent years, scientists of the A.P. Ershov Institute of Informatics Systems of SB RAS in collaboration with the Institute of Saint-Laurent (USA) and other scientific laboratories of the USA and France have joined the cancer research works.
	YAKUTIA AND POLAND ARE READY TO ESTABLISH RESEARCH COLLABORATION A foreign member of the RAS, Doctor of Law, Professor of the University of Warsaw Adam Rotfeld has paid a visit to Yakutsk from August 28 through August 30.
	VORTEX REACTOR FOR SPACE This year in July, the tests of large-capacity gas-vortex bioreactor of the new generation with a working volume of 10,000 liters have been conducted by the “Center of vortex technologies” together with the SSC VB “Vector” with the assistance of independent experts.
	BURYATIYA IS ALSO RICH IN ALUMINUM ORE China is increasing the imports of aluminum ore. At the same time, not a single aluminum deposit in Buryatia is being developed.
	EXPEDITIONARY SUMMER OF BIOLOGISTS OF YAKUTIA Every year the employees of the Institute of Biological Problems of the Cryolithozone of SB RAS work in fields of different parts of Yakutia, and this year was no exception.
