Tsarskoe Selo – Pushkin.

Pushkin is a finest example of a royal family’s country residence. The original stone palace and gardens were built on a small estate 25 kilometers from the capital between 1717 and 1733 for the Empress Catherine I, wife of Peter the Great. A centerpiece of the complex is Catherine Palace. The greatest Russian architect of baroque period, Bartholomeo Rastrelli, created the design of the building, its ornamentation and interior layout, and oversaw the work of many artisans who had turned the place into a grandiose architectural ensemble set in the midst of huge parks. The town of Pushkin has strong connections with the greatest Russian poet, Alexander Pushkin, who spent his early years here.

Peterhof
Petrpodvorets
is one of the greatest achievements of national culture, built in early 18th century on the southern shores of the Gulf of Finland as a royal summer residence. Terrace of Great Palace offers a wonderful view over the canal, sea, and world largest Great Cascade composed of 64 fountains and 255 bronze sculptures, crowned by the huge statue of Samson in the center of 21 m high fountain. Upper and Lower Parks, Montplaisir and Marly Palaces, the Hermitage Pavilion, 144 fountains demonstrate the elegant design which is never excessive.

Bank and exchange
Cash exchange is available in the hotels and the banks (one U.S. dollar is equal to 28 Russian rubles on March, 2006). AmEx, Eurocard, Mastercard, Visa credit cards are generally acceptable. Please note that personal cheques are not accepted.

Climate
Average July temperature is 20-25oC. Sometimes it rains.

Entry Visa to Russia

All foreign participants of the CarboCat Symposium need a valid Passport and an entry visa to Russia

(Passports should be valid at least until January 15, 2007). The Organizing Committee advises the participants to apply for visa directly to the Russian Federation Consulates in your country without additional help from external travel agencies, which in case with Russia are known to be relatively effective only in tourist visas’applications. To arrange ordinary humane visa (scientific cooperation) formalities in time, please send to the Organizing Committee (E-mail: star@catalysis.ru) the table with the following information in English:
