ARISFM,
Development of modern approaches to improvement of forest, from the
point of view of preservation of gene pool and increases of efficiency of seed
breeding selection methods, is an actual task of the modern forestry. About 30
years have passed from the time of buildup of works on creation of the
industrial-scale permanent forest seed base. During this period, the
significant information about genetics and variability of natural populations
of forest-forming species, productivity of "plus-" and other methods
of selection was collected. However, due to social-administrative reasons, this
information is scattered and low used by modern forest science, and some parts
of it may be lost. The work on creation of uniform databank of Common Genetic and Breeding Complex
(CGSC) objects is carried out in order to increase the
efficiency of forest seed breeding activities. It is planned to provide remote
data input (by experts in regions), control, storage and output of the
integrated information, using modern information technologies, including
internet. The Uniform databank is supposed to be a three-level system:
a) computer work stations of "data input
and correction operators" for remote (internet-based) data input and
initial control (in places of gathering of the information about CGSC objects)
and their recording into intermediate databank;
b) work stations of "operators of the
Uniform databank of CGSC objects" - the final control of consistency of
the descriptive and spatial data, decision making about copying the information
to the main databank in manual or automatic mode. Main databank is planned to
be read-only for all users, except the operators of databank.
c) work stations of "end-users of the
Uniform databank of CGSC objects" - creation of report forms of standard
(coordinated) type, data selection according to arbitrary requests to the
databank, displaying of the selected objects on map-schemes, output of the
information both in printed form and as spreadsheets. Access to the information
will be granted according to concerted rules of access for each user level (for
example, CGSC object, the Subject of the
Implementation of the uniform databank of CGSC objects into industry and
forest management will allow:
·
to provide collecting and storage (in an
electronic standardized form) the huge volume of isolated now information about
CGSC objects;
·
to carry out the analysis and monitoring
of the information collected in the Uniform databank, to automate the process
of report preparation and to increase its efficiency;
·
to provide an opportunity of using of
the collected information for the development of scientific basis of forest
seed breeding;
·
to divide one of the most time-taking
routine works of data input among tens of persons, keeping however the
information integrity due to the two-level control system which allows to avoid
entering of unchecked or doubtful information to the main databank.
The databank is planned to unite the information about
the completed complex of scientific and business-management works. The analysis
and synthesis of information in the uniform databank of CGSC objects will promote
the further development of forest seed breeding and increase efficiency of CGSC
objects use.
