Mathematical Simulation in Geophysical Problems. Electromagnetic Methods

The convexity of the cost functional in the electrical sounding inverse problem

Mathematical model of vertical electrical sounding by using resistivity method is studied. The model leads to the identification problem in R^2 whit respect to the unknown conductivity coefficient of the elliptic equaton in the layer.

Some properties of the cost funtional was studied. The conditions of the functional's convexity was obtained for some classes of the admissible conductivity functon. The Conjugate Gradient Method was applied for the numerical solution of the problem. The results are compatible with the theoretical conclutions.
