The methods for tsunami kinematics computation are still wide-spread for direct and inverse tsunami problems. A direct waves detecting in the deep ocean gives the possibility for determining of tsunami source shape and location. So, the accuracy of methods that are used is very important for reliability of the obtained results. In the non-homogeneous media with a variable wave propagation velocity it is not so easy to determine a wave-ray, which connects two given points of the area. In this study, the modification of the method for tsunami travel-times and wave-rays determination is proposed. An approximate ray trace from the source point to any other point of a computational grid can be built after solving the direct problem for obtaining the travel-times. The initial ray approximation is to be optimized using the algorithm based on a calculus of variations. Corrections for travel-time values are making during the calculation process. The algorithm was tested in the area with a model bathymetry. A travel-time difference against a non-optimized method overreaches 1 minute per 1 hour of propagation time.
