Propagation of an atmospheric front and a substance over isolated orography

Yudin M.

ICMMG (novosibirsk)

A small-scale meteorological model is applied to simulate the propagation of an atmospheric front and a substance over isolated orography. Substance propagation is calculated with meteorological fields produced by the model. A semi-Lagrangian method and a simple random walk model are used for temperature and substance propagation, respectively. Calculation results are shown for cold atmospheric front propagation over an obstacle under neutral and stable stratification,as well as substance distribution above a steep hill. Reasonable agreement between the existing theories and the calculation results is obtained.
