In populations of a pubescent birch growing in bog area between rivers Ob¢ and Tom¢ the four basic bark forms have been revealed: smooth bark, harsh bark, wavy bark, yellow (bronze) bark. Our classification was based on Machnev classification (1965) for basic bark forms in the pubescent birch. It was found that the trees with smooth and harsh bark were wide-spread. The bark colors of the most occurring trees are white with various pink and grey shades. The grey shades in the bark color are determined by presence of microscopic mushrooms and algae on the upper bark layers. The dependence of the crown form on the bark type is not found. The structure of birch stands in the bark type depends on the structure of the primary populations and connected with ecological regime of bogs.
