The problem of determining the integral characteristics of the upper part of the cross-section of a geological media adjoining the daily surface, the so-called static corrections, is considered. This problem arises at the processing of 2D/3D seismic survey data by the common midpoint method when the cross-section upper part has considerable lateral velocity inhomogeneities in the presence of a relief. The problem initial data are hodographs of the times of first arrivals of refracted waves picked from field measurement data.

The method proposed makes it possible to reliably determine the low-frequency component of static corrections without detailed preliminary reconstruction of the medium’s velocity cross-section. The method is based on the construction of a family of optimal locally linear velocity approximations with their subsequent refinement by the seismic tomography method. Then the obtained local approximations are smoothly sewed by means of the partition of unity method[1].

The results of the numerical experiments on model examples and those of comparative calculations on the basis of profile measurement data for one of West-Siberian areas are presented.
