Information system for monitoring and management of air quality on city/region level is developed within the EC funded project ISIREMM: Integrated System for Intelligent Regional Environmental Monitoring Management - by the Consortium from of 3 European (Austria, Greece and France) and 5 NIS organizations (including 3 Russian). The project is devoted to adaptation to NIS realities of novel European development in the area of environmental telematics, improvement of the system by means of remote sensors and more reliable pollution transport and transformation models usage as well as to localization and validation of the system developed in Tomsk city.

Performed tests have shown that joint usage of novel remote and conventional local meteorological sensors together with specially developed internal and external allowed us to get reliable prognoses of ecologic weather as well as to determine most dangerous air pollution sources in the city in dependence on meteorological conditions.

Results obtained provide us with solid foundation for development of reliable and easily adapted to specific geographic situation of NIS cities of an integrated informational-computation system at the nearest future. Such system might become an effective instrument for city and regional level decision-makers working to improve environment and well as a source of reliable and justified environmental information for city population.

This work is performed under Contract ÅÑ ICA2-CT-2000-10024.
