INTEGRAL CONSERVATION LAWS IN THE DIRECT PROBLEMS OF QUANTITATIVE SEISMOLOGY

A principally new approach to the construction of a mathematical model of seismic wave propagation in a geological medium is suggested. This phenomenon is studied in the vicinity rather than at fixed points of the medium in the averaged form on the basis of integral conservation laws of the continuous medium mechanics. This approach is closer to reality and allows us to take into account inhomogeneities of the medium like the contact boundaries between different rocks. The mathematical model is presented in the form of ordinary differential equations rather than equations with partial derivatives. This approach can also be applied to the study of other evolutionary processes on the Earth (for example, electromagnetic) that are based on the integral conservation laws.
