Mathematical modeling of processes in atmosphere and hydrosphere
By using tow simple models, the instability was investigated, in which the mean flows are taken into account. It is found, the perturbations with appropriate wavelength become instable when the mean flow ||U||>>Co (here Co is gravity wave speed), this is the so-called superfast instability. On the other hand, the structure of mean flow can also cause the instability. If βy[βy-dU/dy]<0, the inertial instability will occur. Because of the special feature of the tropical atmosphere, for instance, f = βy is usually small in the tropics and Co is also small when the congelation occurs, the instable condition is satisfied easily. In this viewpoint, the superfast and inertial instability may play the important roles in the tropical atmosphere.
