Retrieval of the atmosphere compounds concentration using measurements of emitted radiation

A method for retrieval of the Earth compound gases concentration using the measured intensity of emitted and absorbed radiation for various wavelengths is considered.

The algoritm can be divided into two consequent parts.

In the first step vertical profiles of the total absorption coefficient is retrieved corresponding to different observation wavelengths. This problem may be reduced to solving a triangle system of nonlinear algebraic equations. This system occures to be ill-posed. Statistical regularization has been used to solve it based on apriori information on the desired values distribution. We cannot apply a common regularization procedure as long as the equations are nonlinear ones. The proposed method uses some special features of the problem considered.

In the second step concentrations of single components have been found. This step has been reduced to solving a small system of linear equations.

The work has been supported by grant INTAS-01-0239
