In many urban planning and environmental protection problems,it is necessary to know a detailed distribution of meteorological elements, such as temperature, humidity, pollutants, etc. One can hardly obtain a great body of meteorological information in irregular terrain exclusively with measurements. Alternatively, complex meteorological models should be developed and used.

In this paper,a local finite-element meteorological model is applied to the calculation of canopy and drainage meteorological flows in areas of complex topography. Some results of a calculation of passive material transport in forested areas are presented. The effects of forested areas on the meteorological regime in urban areas are discussed. The fields calculated are in good agreement with familiar phenomena in forested areas and with observations.
