	AT THE GENERAL MEETING OF THE RUSSIAN ACADEMY OF SCIENCES On May 22 to 26, the Annual General Meeting of the Russian Academy of Sciences has been held in Moscow. On the eve, May 19, it has become known about changes in the Government arrangement, particularly about the liquidation of the Ministry of Science and Technologies, which one has joined a structure of new Ministry of Industry, Sciences and Technologies. Former General Director of the Yakovlev Design Office, Doctor Sc. Aleksandr Dondukov, heads the new Ministry.

	TO SEE THE WORLD BEYOND THE HORIZON The second half of the 20th century is a period, when the natural scientists have turned from geographic discoveries to geographical studies of the problems how to save the discovered earlier from the permanent and increasing human impact having sharply sounding title of anthropogenesis. Among the scientists who actively express their position on the savings of the Nature that is the environment of life on the Earth and the comfort of habitation of the human being as a part of the environment, there is Yu.Vinokurov, Director of the Institute of Water and Ecological Problems of the SB RAS. On May 30, he has marked his 60th anniversary.

	THE ACADEMY OF SCIENCES OF YAKUTIA HAS RECKONED UP The Annual General Meeting (scientific session) has been held at the Academy of Sciences of the Republic Saha (Yakutia). More than 20 reports by the heads of the scientific institutions of the Republic have been listened to and discussed.
	ON THE RESULTS OF THE CONFERENCE OF YOUNG SCIENTISTS OF THE KRASNOYARSK SCIENTIFIC CENTER OF THE SB RAS The regular third Conference-contest of Young Scientists of the Krasnoyarsk Scientific Center of the SB RAS has been held; this year the Councils of Young Scientists took an active part in the organization of the Conference.
	OZONE GAPS NEED NO PATCHES The Novosibirsk scientists consider that a change in the thickness of the ozonosphere of the Earth is a regular phenomenon rather then a catastrophe.
	ON THE CONTEST "PRIORITY-DRIVEN SCIENTIFIC RESEARCHES ON THE PROBLEMS OF THE BAIKAL LAKE AND THE BAIKAL REGION" The Russian Basic Research Foundation, the Irkutsk Regional Administration and the Government of the Republic Buryatia have taken a decision to announce on 2000 a competition of projects "Priority-driven Scientific Researches on the Problems of the Baikal Lake and the Baikal Region" for financial support in 2001–2003.
	ATLASES FROM ITAM At the end of December 1999, in the Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics there has been a remarkable event such as an official inauguration of the unique installation WT-303 ("AT-303" in Russian abbreviations). Its full title is Hypersonic Wind Tunnel of Adiabatic Compression with Pressure Multiplier.

	THE SEASON OF TICKS IS IN FULL SWING The vernal tick encephalitis (TE) is an acute viral natural- centered infection, which one affects a central nervous system. The latency after a tick sting lasts from 7 up to 14 days. Already on April, 29 in the Soviet District of Novosibirsk city there have been 60 cases of the tick stings registered: 52 adult persons and 8 children. The first appeal to ambulance being on April 12, 2000.
