	IN THE COURSE OF TIME Presenters of the Novosibirsk TV have called the regional scientific and technical program "Siberia" an "unloved child". However, this year seems to become a turning point and there is a better chance to change its lot. This was spoken about at the session of interdepartmental scientific council on the regional scientific and technical program "Siberia", preceding the Annual General Meeting of the SB RAS.
	CONGRATULATING PRIZEWINNERS April 26, at the Annual General Meeting of the Siberian Branch, large group of scientific youth was solemnly presented with the prizes named after outstanding scientists of the Siberian Branch of the RAS.
	SHORT-TERM PAUSE OR THE END OF RECOVERY? Much indicate in Russia an economic recession to begin. This is testified by any "deceleration " in December 2000 and January 2001 in two branches which most precisely reflect dynamics of economic development: railway transport (ca. 6%) and electric power industry. Arguments are aroused with the recession depth and duration. The majority of economists believe, that the recession will be of short-term and superficial character.
	VETERAN OF THE GREAT PATRIOTIC Inhabitant of the Novosibirsk Academgorodok Aleksandr Grigorievich Tropin has celebrated his 90th anniversary in March. On the eve of the Day of Victory veteran of the Great Patriotic War, senior lieutenant Tropin is sharing his remembrances at the Institute of Chemical Kinetics and Combustion, wherefrom he has left for deserved rest.
	WARRIORS RECOLLECTING... Inhabitant of the Novosibirsk Academgorodok Yuri Rykov, former aircraft mechanic of the "Normandy-Neman" regiment, tells about his commander, Frenchman Pierre Pouillald.
	IT IS OUR CIVIC DUTY In May 2001 a resolution was adopted, in which it was offered to renew the work of the groups for compiling the Regional Book of Memory. The names of 180 thousand Novosiberians who have not come back from the battlefields of the Great Patriotic War are included in 15 volumes of this Book.
	COMPETITION OF POPULAR SCIENTIFIC ARTICLES The British Council and the "InformNauka" Agency announce a competition for the best popular scientific article. The subject is "Science for the society".
	CHEMICAL FORUM IN AUSTRALIA The World Chemical Congress under the motto "Chemistry of XXI century" has been held in Brisbane (Australia). Traditionally, it is the most large-scale forum of chemists. Two principal lecturers, invited by the organizing committee, have represented our country at the Congress. They are Professor Aleksei Tkachev, head of the Laboratory of Terpenoids of the Novosibirsk Institute of Organic Chemistry of the SB RAS and Deputy Director of the Institute of Chemical Kinetics and Combustion, head of the Laboratory of Laser Photochemistry, Professor Aleksandr Petrov.
