	GENERAL MEETING IN MOSCOW During three days in December, Joint Scientific Session of the General Meetings of the RAS and the RAMS was held in Moscow.
	THE TASKS ARE COMPLETELY DIFINED Joint session of the General meetings of the RAS and the RAMS "Science for man’s health" has adopted resolution that determines basic lines of work for the nearest future.

	ON THE OCCASION OF DECADE OF RECONSTRUCTION OF THE RUSSIAN ACADEMY OF ROCKET AND ARTILLERY SCIENCES On December, 5, 2003, General meeting the Russian Academy of Rocket and Artillery Sciences has taken place where the decade of recreation of the Russian Academy of Rocket and Artillery was celebrated. Elections of new members of the Academy were held.
	WHEN THE DIARCHY COMES TO THE END The diarchy at the Academic institutes, provided by the Charter of scientific institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences, lasts no more than two months. During this uneasy period a director of an institute who lost his authorities for some reason, must transfer them to his successor.
	EFFICIENCY OF SCIENTIFIC DEVELOPMENT The Governor Prize (Irkutsk Region) for 2003 in the field of science and engineering was wined by the work "Development of high-efficient mechanized boilers using low-grade carbons for municipal power system of Irkutsk Region".
	OIL-AND-GAS EQUIPMENT: REGIONAL ASPECT Low level of technologies used in all the sequence of movement of hydrocarbons – from the search and survey up to their extraction and initial processing is one of the key problems rendering direct influence on the functioning of domestic oil-and-gas complex already during several decades.
	RESULTS OF THE INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS "Mathematics in the 21st century. Role of Mechanics and Mathematics Faculty of the NSU in science, education and business".
	THERE HAS COME TALENTED YOUTH December 9 to 11 annual scientific conference has been held at the Institute of Solid State Chemistry and Mechanochemistry of the SB RAS.
	POWERFUL COUNCIL - PRODUCTIVE YEAR This year the Council of Scientific Youth of the Tomsk Scientific Center of the SB RAS has turned out, perhaps, the strongest one for three years of work. Along with the saved up experience, it has allowed to obtain the greatest effect.
	EARTHQUAKES OF AUTUMN OF 2003 IN MOUNTAIN ALTAI Powerful earthquakes having occurred in Mountain Altai, in rather quiet territory, have burst as a bolt from the blue. Shoks were felt in large cities of Altai area, the Kemerovo and Novosibirsk regions and in Eastern Kazakhstan.
	RESULTS OF ALL-RUSSIAN OLYMPIADS ON GEOLOGICAL SCIENCES
	CIRCLE OF READING Last days of the outgoing year our correspondent has met with the publisher of scientific literature Tamara Rozhkovskaya who during a number of years was Editor-in-chief of the Publishing house "Nauchnaya Kniga (Scientific book)", Novosibirsk, and now proceeds with editing and publishing of scientific mathematical literature in her own publishing house.
	ETHNOSOCIAL PROCESSES IN SIBERIA The fifth issue of the thematic collection "Ethno-social processes in Siberia" has been published at the Institute of Philosophy and Law of the UIHPP of the SB RAS.
	WITH A COMPUTER IN CHINESE Methodical manual on usage of computer lexicon in Chinese language "With a computer in Chinese" has been issued in the Publishing house of the NSU.
	ANNIVERSARY OF THE NOVOSIBIRSK PICTURE-GALLERY December, 26, on the day of the 45th anniversary, the Novosibirsk Picture- Gallery opens a new, in its own way unique section, "Siberian art of the 20th century".

	TENNIS TOURNAMENT Academiad-2003 the 35th traditional Table Tennis Tournament for the prizes of the “Science in Siberia” weekly have taken place in the sports hall of the House of Physical Culture of the NSC. Extensive program of this sports holiday included both team tournament and personal championship in all categories.
	IN MEMORY OF SCIENTIST December, 16 Michail Innokentievich Tulohonov, well-known scientist, specialist in folklore, Doctor Sc. (Philology), Professor, the Russian Federation State Prize-winner, Honorary Scientific Worker of Republic Buryatiya has suddenly died.
	IN MEMORY OF COLLEAGUE Due to serious illness, Vladimir Prokopievich Safonov, head of laboratory of the Institute of Automation and Electrometry of the SB RAS has died within 58th year of life.
	CONDOLENCE December, 25, 2003, after serious illness, Ludmila Dmitrievna Dikanskaya, scientific secretary of the Novosibirsk State University has died.
