	PRESIDENT MEDVEDEV: "BAIKAL MUST REMAIN CLEAN!" The President of Russia Dmitri Medvedev during his working trip to Irkutsk on February, 20 has visited the Baikal Museum of the Siberian Branch of the RAS.
	THE SB RAS AND THE CPR: ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF SUCCESSION February, 6 to 13, 2009 the delegation of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences has visited the Chinese People’s Republic with a duty call.
	ONE MORE BUSINESS ALLIANCE The Institute of Coal and Coal Chemistry of the SB RAS and the Agency for the protection of the population and territory of the Kemerovo Region have signed the agreement for cooperation and information coordination in the solution of the problems in sphere of the prevention and liquidation of extreme situations.
	LIBRARY: "THE SOUL OF THE ACADEMY" The Central Scientific Library of the IrSC of the SB RAS was founded and grew together with the Irkutsk Scientific Center. The first record in the registration book has been made in March, 1949. And together with the Scientific Center the Library celebrates the 60th anniversary.
	SEDIMENTOLOGIST’S ANNIVERSARY March, 10 marks the 70th anniversary of well-known scientist, leading researcher of the Laboratory of Geodynamics and Paleomagnetism of the Trofimuk Institute of Petroleum Geology and Geophysics of the SB RAS Yuli Konstantinovich Sovetov.
	DEVOTED TO THE ORGANIZERS OF THE UNIVERSITY February, 25 a meeting of the Academic Council was held at the TSU devoted to the 175th anniversary from the birthdays of the organizers of the Tomsk University V.M.Florinski and D.I.Mendeleev.
	BARBARIZATION It seems, all of us are more and more immersed into the abyss of medieval wildness. To tell the truth, we are helped with doing it. The appreciable contribution to this business is brought by mass media.
	IS THE "DEFAULT" OF DOLLAR PROBABLE? Recently a hysteria has developed concerning the currency collapse. They call the future accident in different ways: the devaluation of dollar, the default, etc. The most of the foretellers of this future financial disaster blaming the United States for nothing provided currency issue, predict an universal crash.
	THE RESULTS OF SPACE ACTIVITIES FOR REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT The development of the medium-term regional target program for using the results of space activity for the sake of Yugra social and economic development is completed.
	MICROCOSMIC MODEL OF SODA RESERVOIRS In the Laboratory of Water Ecosystems of the INREC of the SB RAS an attempt is made to simulate the ecosystem of the Doroninskoe soda lake in the microcosm, and consequently, that of a hypothetical paleoreservoir. The observations show the similarity of the microcosm and the real lake ecosystem, as well as to the present concepts of vertical heterogeneity of the paleoocean.
	"Carl Zeiss" GRANTS FOR YOUNG SCIENTISTS March, 4 at the Novosibirsk State University a solemn delivery of the "Carl Zeiss" Company grants took place. Students, post-graduates and the University employees using the equipment of this company for the scientific work participated in the competition.
	"THE POTANIN CLUB" FOR ACTIVE GRANT-AIDED STUDENTS V.Potanin Charity foundation has begun to accept students’ project applications and essays for the competition for the participation in Summer School.

	ANNOUNCEMENT The Novosibirsk Innovation-and-investment Corporation invites the authors of inventions and the owners of know-how in various fields of science and engineering for cooperation.
	INFANT SCHOOL ESTABLISHMENTS: SUMMING UP THE RESULTS On the eve of March, 8 the heads and the senior tutors of infant scools of the Siberian Branch of the RAS including the visitors from the Buryat, Krasnoyarsk, Tomsk and Yakut Scientific Centers actively participated in the discussion of the results of the working of the State infant-school education establishments for 2008.
