	LIFE IN STRUGGLE On August 16, 2011 it’s been 100 years since Academician A.A. Trofimuk - the patriarch of domestic geology of petroleum and gas, the outstanding scientist, the highest qualification petroleum expert, one of the founders of Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences, was born.
	COMMITMENT Academician A.A.Trofimuk was a fighter, a courageous person, a man of unbending spirit. Interests of his country, science, devotion to the cause were for him above all.
	HE WAS ABLE TO UNITE PEOPLE My first acquaintance with Andrey Alekseevich Trofimuk took place in Leningrad in the early 1950s.
	I WAS HAPPY TO MAKE FRIENDS WITH HIM Andrey Alekseevich Trofimuk will live forever in our hearts not only as the outstanding scientist and organizer of science and manufacture. Everyone who knew him, warmly speak about his remarkable human qualities.
	EDITOR-IN-CHIEF Academician Andrey Alekseevich Trofimuk and his colleagues, creating in Siberia the large interdisciplinary Institute of Geology and Geophysics of SB USSR Academy of Sciences, were well aware of the importance of edition of special scientific journal.

	ABOUT GEOLOGY - MANY IMPORTANT AND DIFFERENT THINGS A big 900-page book titled “The Institute of Geology and Geophysics” has been issued. It describes a history of development of the well-known Institute, its scientific directions and scientific schools having gained a world-wide reputation.
	EDUCATION THROUGH GEOLOGY A good expert as a rule grows, when his profession penetrates into his skin’s tissue and blood and comprehension of it begins at an early age. As has noted the man, being a good judge of it, “sources of profession invariably come from schools and study groups”.
