We cordially invite you to participate in the International Workshop BIOSPHERE ORIGIN and EVOLUTION to be held on June 26-29, 2005 in Novosibirsk Scientific Center (Russia).

The Workshop comprises 25 Plenary lectures (40 minutes), 35 oral presentations (15-30 minutes) and 100 posters in the following sections:

• Problem of abiogenic synthesis and chemical evolution of substance under conditions of pregeological stages of Earth formation to the beginning Archaean;
• Problem of non-template synthesis of organic compounds in biomineral systems;
• “The RNA World”: problem of simplest self-reproducing systems on RNA templates;
• Problem of Archaean–Proterozoic biological systems;
• Problem of biogeoaromorphosis and co-evolution of abiotic and biotic events;
• Ecosystem and biocenosis organization and development of life on Earth;
• Problem of genetic mechanisms of progressive biological evolution;
• Problem of molecular genetic mechanisms of anthropogenesis

The Book of Abstracts and CD will be published before the Workshop and distributed to the participants at the registration. The full papers will be published after the Workshop in a Special Issue of BIOGEOSCIENCES in English. Only papers presented at the Workshop will be considered for publication. All manuscripts will be peer reviewed and refereed according to the procedure adopted in this Journal, selected papers will be included in the proceedings volume. The manuscripts should be submitted during the Workshop time. You can find regulations in the attached Guide for Authors (Attachment 1). The Workshop will be held at the House of Scientists of Novosibirsk Scientific Center (Morskoi prospect, 23, 630090 Novosibirsk, Russia; tel. number: +7 383 3 30 39 80).

The weather in Novosibirsk at the end of June is normally sunny with the temperatures in the range 20-25 Centigrade. We advise you to bring sport and swimming suits. The Organizing Committee hopes that the weather will create a pleasant spirit around the Workshop.

The participants will be accommodated in the "Golden Valley" hotel located within 15-min walk of the Workshop venue (ul. Il’icha, 10, 630090 Novosibirsk, Russia; tel. number +7 383 2 30 36 09, fax +7 383 2 30 42 40). The current prices in rubles per room/per night are given below:

Participants will be met at the Novosibirsk airport and taken to the hotel by special transport. The Organizing Committee asks the participants to inform in advance about arrival date, time and flight number to arrange the meeting at the airport of Novosibirsk. The representatives of the Organizing Committee will have the transparencies with the Workshop logo.

The Russian currency is Ruble. One US dollar is currently 27.77 rubles, one Euro is 36 rubles.

The electric current in Russia is 220 V (50 Hz). Plugs and sockets are the same as in the Continental countries of the European Union.

Time in Novosibirsk is 6 hours ahead of GMT.

The registration of the participants will take place on June 25, Saturday, from 2 p.m. at the Hotel “Golden Valley”, and on June 26, Sunday, from 8.30 at the House of Scientists.
