Modeling of ignition process of the granulated solid propellant in combustion chamber of airbag gasgenerator

The problem on ignition of solid propellant granules in the gas-generator of the device of automobile safety (airbag) is considered. The walls of combustion chamber of such gas-generator have some outlet slots (nozzles) for an output of combustion products. The ignition is carried out by a special fuse (buster) representing the cylinder filled by fast-burning granulated propellant. The combustion products of the propellant contain a fine-dyspersated solid phase for acceleration of ignition of the primary propellant in the combustion chamber. The modelling is dome using the spatial statement of the problem within the framework of interpenetrating continuum model. A carrying gas is described by the averaged Navier-Stockes equations, where the processes of power and thermal interaction between phases are described in the form of source terms. The heterogeneity of temperature distribution inside the fuel granules and the possibility of their forced gasification are considered at greater thermal flows inside granules in the absence of burning. The primary aim of the modelling is to research ignition regimes in order to choose the most rational constructive scheme of the combustion chamber providing a reliable ignition of fuel granules.
