Mathematical Modelling
In the work the approaches to numerical modeling of dynamics of long waves in a coastal zone of sea water areas are described.
The attention to these tasks is caused by that runup of long waves of a various origin on a coast frequently causes catastrophic consequences.
In a coastal region most interesting and difficult for modeling are the processes of runup of waves on a coast and subsequent reflection. With the solving of a task of such type various ways of simplification of a configuration of a coastal line and bathymetry frequently are applied.
Authors have investigated the question on an admissibility of various model situations. For reception of quantitative results there are used both one-dimensional and two-dimensional cases (piecewise-linear slopes and a conic island in the centre of a flat basin).
In particular, is shown, that with significant nonlinearity of process
such ways of simplification of geometry of a coastal zone as replacement of a slope by a vertical impenetrable wall or the smoothing of bottom surface may result in significant errors in calculation of runup values and time characteristics of arrival of waves.
