The final goal of these studies is to develop the scientific basis for the protection and improvement of the health of people who live in Siberia, both native and new-comers.

A special attention is given to the assessment of health and to the methods of reducing the morbidity in ethnic groups of the Far North, with due regard of environmental and developmental factors of their habitats. The institutes of RAMS SB are working in the fields of biochemistry, biophysics, genetics, endocrinology, molecular biology, immunology, physiology, pathophysiology, and morphology. Studied are the regional characteristics of diseases, the problems of diet optimization, of recreation and balneology in Siberia. Important fields of research are also the problems of environmental impact and working conditions upon the human health, prophylactics and treatment of occupational diseases attacking workers of different branches of industries and agriculture.
