Welcome:

Russia - the largest forest country in the world, with 75% of its forest are forests of Siberia, the Urals and the Far East. Their economic value associated with the condition, productivity, and genetic potential of populations of forest-forming species, is enormous. For cost- conscious approach, boreal forests, judging by the example of Finland and Sweden, can provide over 50% of national income. Forest genetic resources of Siberia (LGR) - strategic resources and national wealth of Russia.

The need to hold meetings on the conservation LGR Siberia due to the increased role of the Siberian taiga in regulating global climate, biospheric role of Siberian forests in the regulation of global biogeochemical cycles, insufficient study of the genetic structure of populations of forest tree species in north-Asian part of their natural habitats, especially in the taiga zone, the lack of systematic Studies on the effect of man-made pollution, forest exploitation and global climate change on the genetic structure of stands, not very targeted effective use of forest genetic resources, as well as the relevance of further synthesis of traditional and modern molecular genetic approaches to the intensification of genetics and breeding to improve and preserve the forest.

The 1st International Conference on Conservation of Forest Genetic Resources in Siberia (CFGRS-2007) July 30 - August 4, 2007, Barnaul, Russia (resolution)

Attended by 87 people from Russia, Bulgaria, Italy, USA, Slovakia, Belarus. Following 71 reports, made 2 trips to the genetics and breeding sites conifer in the Altai Krai and Altai Republic.
